Choose Gratitude, Change Your Trajectory

What if gratitude was your most underrated business strategy? We dig into three practical ways thankfulness can reshape your results: protecting your perspective in high-pressure seasons, strengthening your leadership when your team needs clarity, and expanding opportunities you could never script. Drawing on vivid stories—from the wilderness account of shifting perspective to the courage of Joshua and Caleb, and a modern sports moment where public gratitude led to rare invitations—we connect faith and execution in a way that’s simple, actionable, and real.
We start by reframing gratitude as more than a mood. It’s a decision that changes how you read data, handle delays, and face giants in the market. Then we unpack how leaders set the emotional tone for their teams: celebrate progress, name contributors, and cultivate a culture where feedback lands on a foundation of value. Finally, we explore why doors tend to open for people who honor the ones already open, and how visible gratitude signals character, attracts allies, and builds a trustworthy brand that invites collaboration.
By the end, you’ll have three clear practices to put to work this week: keep a record of provision to steady decisions, spotlight specific people and progress in your meetings, and publicly credit partners and process after each milestone. Whether you’re launching or scaling, these rhythms align your business with God’s blueprint and turn daily work into worship. If this conversation blesses you, share it with a friend, subscribe for more faith-fueled strategy, and leave a review so we can reach more kingdom-minded leaders. Which of the three gratitude moves will you put into action first?

Recap And Closing Invitation
SPEAKER_00Hey everybody, welcome to the Coach Martin Show. I'm your host, Coach Martin. Super excited about today's show. Today we're going to talk about gratitude in your business. So I'm going to be giving you three PowerPoints, three PowerPoints to know regarding gratitude with your business. I'm going to give you a couple visuals as well so you can hold on to them. So this is going to be great. Whether you're starting a business, whether you're thinking about it, or whether you've been in business for a long time, you're going to want to hold on to these three points. So I'm going to start with the first one, and that's gratitude protects perspective. So when I think of gratitude protecting perspective, I always think back. Wait, I'm going to take you way back on a journey. Way back when God delivered his people from Egypt. You know the story. They crossed the Red Sea. They spent 40 years wandering in the desert. But but one of those one of those times when they were wandering and complaining in the desert was, you know, they were they were eating bread and they were complaining because they wanted meat. As a matter of fact, it got so bad they said, listen, man, it was better back there because we were getting meat. Let's go back. And I just think to myself, like, think about their perspective. Let's kind of think about this for a minute. These guys are complaining because they're not eating meat. And they're and then they took it a step further. Now they're like, hey, you know, things were better when we were slaves. When we were slaves because we had meat. But when they were slaves and they had meat, they were complaining back there because how hard the work was and because they were being oppressed. So we when you really break it down, perspective is everything. And if you don't have gratitude, they should have had gratitude for the fact that they were no longer slaves. That alone should have changed your perspective. So you really want to think about it because it what it does is it does change perspective. Right? So having that, number one. Okay, number two, gratitude strengthens leadership. So I'm gonna take you a little bit further past the story uh a little bit sooner, closer to where we are today. Um, you know, right before um, you know, God's people were about to go into the promised land, uh, he sent twelve people to go in and spy out the land. Now, the interesting thing about it is all 12 of these people, they were all leaders. So they're all appointed by their tribe. So they were all leaders. So you had 12 leaders, they go to spy out the land, uh, they come back, amazing land, houses are huge, vineyards are huge, wells are deep, like the best you can even imagine. It was perfect. And ten of them came back the same thing, just complaining. Like, hey, you know, there's giants in the land. Well, of course there's giants in the land. That's why everything's so big. But yeah, two of them, right? Joshua and Caleb did not. You know, so that's such a great example of like you're you know, having gratitude for the the land that God was giving them and just stopping there, not going any further, and being grateful for that i i is basically all all you need, right? So you wanna be you wanna you wanna be grateful. By being grateful and being able to be like that, that determines the real leaders from the fake leaders. So you're gonna really, really wanna be like that. Think about like Joshua. Joshua is probably one of the greatest leaders that's ever been born, right? But he was grateful for the things that God gave him and he stopped at that. But the third thing I want to talk about is I want to talk about how gratitude expands opportunity. Now you're probably thinking, well, okay, I could get the first one, I could get the second one, but where are you going on the third one? So it expands opportunity. So I'm gonna kind of take you back. Uh not long ago. I'm a big, I'm a big sports guy. I love hockey. Um, you know, just recently the uh team USA won the gold medal, and it was special for me, not the fact that they just won it, but I was able to watch it with my my youngest son before you know he moved away to Texas. He's a big hockey fan as well. So we woke up early in the morning, game started at 5 a.m. I watched the game before church, and it was just amazing. But you know, the the cool thing about it was not that they just won. I love the fact that you know they celebrated and afterwards during the interview, you know, they were talking about how you know thankful they are, the fact that they get to represent their country, they love their country and they're just excited, and I'm gonna tell you, and the world of sports, you don't see that too often anymore. Like it's a lot of times it's on the other end, right? Where you know you have people that are like, you know, they're they're not proud of where they are, but yet they're representing their country, which to me makes no sense. So the fact that they're able to do that, like one, it just made the win so much sweeter in my eyes. But here's here's where I'm getting to. It opens opportunity. So once they won and they were grateful, while they're in the locker room and they're celebrating, they got a phone call from the president. It's on video, like you know, champagne's going, the you know, presidents talking to them, and then the president invited them to the White House and to be part of the State of the Union. That's amazing. Only few people are allowed to be able to take in an event like that. I don't care who the president is. So what it did was the the fact that they were grateful and they had such gratitude in their hearts for their country for winning, uh, it opened up the opportunity to be able to go and have a special moment that most people can never, ever, ever get. So I just think about you and I in business, right? The the the more gratitude that we display, the more opportunities are gonna be open for us. So I'm not saying be grateful just for the opportunities, but I'm saying the opportunities are gonna be a byproduct and kind of like the shadow, they're gonna just follow you wherever you go. So going back, you want to protect your perspective with gratitude. Number two, you you want to use it to strengthen your leadership because the better leader you become, the more people you can lead the right way, and then finally it's going to open doors of opportunity. So be grateful. I promise you, it'll be worth it. So listen, that's all I got. Um, if you like this, share with friends, uh, share with family. Uh if you have questions, go to our website, www.coachmartinshow.com. Um, we love to hear from you. Uh love to be able to connect with you. But until next time, I'm Coach Martin. I'm out.
